Mountain Health Chiropractic & Neurology Center
The leading provider of chiropractic neurology in Colorado

What Makes Us Different
We do not offer "run of the mill" chiropractic care. Instead, we specialize in chiropractic neurology...

We take the physical medicine of chiropractic care and couple it with the most cutting-edge knowledge in chiropractic neurology.
In order to get the complete picture of a patient's health, we go deeper than just looking at symptoms.

If you're looking for a quick fix or a superficial diagnosis, please look elsewhere. We're committed to treating causes, not just symptoms. And we think that personal attention plus thorough diagnosis can lead to the most effective treatment plan possible.

Mountain Health Chiropractic & Neurology Center doesn't rely on the medical opinions of others to guide treatment.

Instead, we start from the beginning, working with patients to get a good picture of their past, present, and future health before embarking on the road to lasting well-being.

Essentially, we bring together ALL aspects of a person's health to determine the best way to get results in the shortest amount of time.

To really understand all of the things that make us different, we've included a lot of information on this page. Feel free to read top to bottom or you can jump to the section that interests you most:

3 MAIN reasons Mountain Health Chiropractic & Neurology Center is different:

1. We focus on the brain-body connection
Utilizing our Interactive Metronome service, can help children and adults with issues such as ADHD or learning disabilities.

It's simple science really — the brain controls our body, and our body provides feedback to the brain. When this relationship breaks down, so can your health. We work with patients to identify and address these discrepancies.

So, when you have an issue, condition or health problem... we locate the issue in the body and see how it is tied to the brain.

If you only look at one area of a person's health — rather than the way the brain and body are fully connected — it's very difficult to fully comprehend the degree of dysfunction within the person. Therefore it results in a slowing of or a lack of progress for the patient.

2. We specialize in Chiropractic Neurology

Because of this specialty, we are able to offer our patients vast, cutting-edge knowledge in the area of the brain-body connection. This fact alone makes us different from other chiropractors out there you can choose to work with.

Dr. Shane Steadman and Dr. David Arthur are 2 of only 3 board certified Chiropractic Neurologists in the state of Colorado!

A traditional medical neurologist is trained to find gross problems such as strokes or brain damage. As chiropractic neurologists, we take a functional approach, looking beyond external symptoms to find core issues.

3. We give a very comprehensive, neurological exam to all of our patients

There are very few doctors that look at the function of the whole body and brain as it relates to:

  • Immune Function
  • Endocrine Function
  • Nervous System Function
  • Structure and Physiology

And then take what they've found and develop an innovative plan of wellness that involves the patient in restoring proper function of their body.

We have been trained to evaluate the human function — in a VERY comprehensive way — through neurology, as well as blood analysis and immune panels.
We utilize various neurological tests with ALL of our patients. We test areas such as: eye movement, balance, smell, taste, gait, motor coordination, reflexes, sensitivity to pain, calculation abilities, language skills, range of motion, and more.

We use neurological tests to check your muscle tone, thought patterns, reflexes, eye movements, senses, blood pressure, even oxygen intake.

Our functional diagnostics allow us to consider all symptoms… from major health crises to everyday issues like balance problems, dry nose or mouth, ringing ears, or dizziness. Once we've identified your core issues, we can fix them at your core — not with life long medication or complicated, expensive surgeries — which allows your body to begin healing itself.

One of our patients illustrates how we're different than other chiropractors and medical doctors in this testimonial...

I have been to 14 chiropractors in 4 different states to date, and can most assuredly verify that Dr. Steadman is outstanding in his field.

"I'm 36 years old and have a degree in mechanical engineering. I worked several years and then stayed home to raise our children. My hobby became an at-home career and I ran a successful violin studio and performed locally.

In 2003 I lost the use of my arms. The pain was incredible and I couldn't lift a coffee mug.  After going through the conventional medicine route with only increasing pain, I decided to try chiropractic. I did get immediate relief with my arms, but my injury/issues were more complex than basic chiropractors could comprehend or fix. Sadly the muscle spasms in my back were so great I would stand slightly tilted to my left and could no longer stand upright. Being heavily trained in problem solving (engineer!), I asked many questions and somehow still trusted that chiropractic had an answer for me.

I got referred to a lot of chiropractors over 9 months, but the results were the same, pain and listing, until I landed in a chiropractor neurologists office. Dr. Gail Henry was different.  She was checking the functionality of each quadrant of my brain, for both sending and receiving messages. Every section of my nervous system was checked. Her spinal manipulations were completely different than any I'd seen before. After she completed them, she went back and checked my nervous system function again to assure she'd fixed what she intended. She actually checked her work! (Valuable to
the engineer in me!)

Standard chiropractors had just popped my back and told me it was fine and when it wasn't, there was no diagnostic process available to them. Chiropractic neurologists actually have the neurologic training necessary to diagnose and test the changes made to your nervous system through chiropractic.

To me, the blind spot basic DC's have in this area is huge. What a difference to know what is going on through the adjustment. After my first visit, I was able to stand straight. I could tell it was different. I wish I could say that was all it took, but I had a lot of exercises to do to get my "bum cerebellum" functioning at a level it never had before.

During this process my family moved from Texas to Colorado. I realized my chiropractic care was way more specialized than the average DC could provide. My search lead me to Dr. Shane Steadman in Denver whose training in chiropractic neurology made it possible to understand the details of my care in Texas.

Dr. Steadman truly stands out amongst health practitioners in his humility (i.e. no big doctor's ego) and his amazing breadth of understanding of other types of health care. His openness and knowledge to other forms of care are a great asset to any patient. Dr. Steadman has had the privelege to study with many great chiropractors and the skill level in his hands is far more advanced than the average DC. Chiropractic is a great science, and chiropractic neurology is ever so more complete, but it does come down to the art and skill in the hands of the individual practitioner.

I have been to 14 chiropractors in 4 different states to date, and can most assuredly verify that Dr. Steadman is outstanding in his field. Incidentally, in my search, I have also been to MD neurologists and the difference in diagnostics to chiropractic neurologists is a huge gap as well.

The chiropractic neurologists did so many more non-invasive checks, the result was a much more complete picture of my CNS in just 20-30 minutes. The MD's look at function as either "on" or "off" while the chiropractic neurologists are able to differentiate "weakened" or "sub-optimal" performance to identify more subtle issues.

Moreover, the chiropractic neurologist possesses the ability to fix the subtle abnormalities, whereas the MD neurologist is not trained in spinal manipulation or non-invasive techniques for rehabilitation."

A few things to consider, before working with ANY chiropractor...

>> People need to beware of practitioners that claim the "one thing" they do in their practice cures everyone... kind of a "one size fits all approach." Not all problems are physically based in nature and therefore may need a brain-based treatment to restore their function! There is rarely, if ever, a "one size fits all."

>> Be aware when you are consistently going back for the same problem and the doctor is doing the same thing expecting different results. Sometimes patients will do too much to get better and get frustrated with the lack of results.

>> Be carefull of practitioners who just look at symptoms. Remember that treating causes, not symptoms — as we do in our practice — is the best and quickest way to recover and/or maintain optimum health and wellness.

Most traditional medical neurologists are trained to find gross problems such as strokes or brain damage. As chiropractic neurologists, we take a functional approach, looking beyond external symptoms to find core issues... and this is the most effective means of diagnosis!

>> Make sure the practitionery you're considering looks at the brain-body connection and how it effects your health. If you only look at one area of a person's health — rather than the way the brain and body are fully connected — it's very difficult to fully comprehend the degree of dysfunction within the person. Therefore it results in a slowing of or a lack of progress for the patient.

Mountain Health Chiropractic & Neurology Center specializes in chiropractic neurology and looking at the entire brain-body connection!

Common myths about chiropractic care...

"All chiropractors are the same."
Not true. Our office is a specialty clinic in the field of Chiropractic
Neurology.
This specialty is unique in that Chiropractic Neurologists are
experts in looking at the direct connection between the brain and body and
how it relates to health and disease. Due to its intense curriculum, there
are less than 600 ACNB Chiropractic Neurologists in the world. Drs.
Arthur and Steadman are 2 of the 3 located in Colorado.

"Once you go to a chiropractor, you always have to go."
Again, not true. It's usually the choice of the patient to continue with chiropractic care because they see the benefits in their own lives. Examples: Taking your car in for a regular tune up or oil change (for maintenance). Seeing your dentist on a regular basis (for maintenance). Going to the gym (for maintenance). Eating healthy foods (for maintenance). Etc...

"Chiropractic care causes strokes."
Not in our office... we do NOT employ this style of adjustment! There is literature on the incidences of an adverse reaction pertaining to some chiropractic care. Most supportive literature shows that rotating the head during the adjustment is a risk factor. Again, this style of adjusting is NEVER employed by our office!

"Chiropractors are just back doctors."
Not with us. Our patients find relief from multiple ailments that they might be experiencing. We are extensively trained in the function of the human nervous system. Again, our specialty is chiropractic neurology... not just adjusting your back.

We are more successful in diagnosing and treating disease, because...

We perform a thorough evaluation of the person's condition.
Our comprehensive evaluation looks at ALL areas of your health.

Most doctors perform a short evaluation of the patient and the area of complaint. Most doctors spend no more than 5-10 minutes with a patient before making a diagnosis and treatment recommendation.

Mountain Health Chiropractic & Neurology Center is different. It takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours — start to finish — for our new patient exam (see becoming a patient for complete details).

Once you're a patient, your visits will last anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour depending on your treatment plan and issues we are working on solving.

We look at functional blood chemistry analysis.

Most doctors look at the laboratory ranges and prescribe prescriptions base on that range. Different labs have different ranges, so the results can and do vary greatly. This causes the patient to fall outside the ranges they were once within. This makes a once normal condition now seem abnormal... just by changing some numbers.

We look at your blood results in such a way to discover patterns of dysfunction and treat them before they become a serious problem.

We believe and practice sound nutritional protocols.

Nutritional products prescribed in office are high quality professional agents that are: developed in a pharmaceutical licensed lab and dosed at a therapeutic range to increase the function in the body.

Nutritional products in the box stores may be questionable in regards to quality and manufacturing and the patient may not understand how the nutritional products should affect their bodies. Patients may not understand how to use nutrition and diet to change their current condition. They need someone who can find the underlying nutritional needs rather than "self-treating" based on what they hear in the media. Specific conditions require specific solutions.

We integrate salivary testing in our treatment plans.

Our office understands how to integrate salivary testing (which is the testing of hormones, cortisol, etc.) with a person's healthcare to give measuring tools on progress that the person has made.

We look at immune panels to understand many chronic diseases.

We understand the affects of the immune system and the rest of the body. Such conditions may appear as autoimmune disorders (attacking different aspects of a person's health) or an immune shift or imbalance within the immune system itself. We also work with other healthcare providers to meet the goals of the patient when necessary.
